ABOUT MIDWIFERY SERVICES OF DURHAM

We were one if the first practices in Ontario to get hospital privileges after legislation, with first midwife attended birth in hospital in Canada.  Over the last 20 years, our practice has grown and now consists of 10 registered midwives. How can I access a Midwife?

Midwifery care is accessible to those who are pregnant. Midwifery Services is covered by the Ministry of Health for those who carry a valid Ontario Health Card, so consumers are not required to pay for their care. Special funding is available for Non-OHIP residents of Ontario, however not all services will be covered. For more details about Non-OHIP, please give our office a call.

Why Choose a Midwife?

Midwives are specialists in normal birth. The preventative, continuous and personalized care of midwives can result in fewer complications during labour and delivery. Midwives set time in prenatal visits to discuss clients' concerns and questions, and to provide information to assist in making decisions in pregnancy. We also provide continuous care in the postpartum period for up to 6 weeks
